Thursday at the Crocker: “Charlie and the Rabbit” and other short films

Ok, friends, I know many of us are writers, but how about some fantastic short films by local directors? You probably have heard of at least one of these…"Charlie and the Rabbit," perhaps? If you haven't had a chance to visit the new Crocker Art Museum, you are in for a real treat, and Thursday nights mean late hours. It's lovely! --Kate

Film Frame: The Short Films of Robert Machoian & Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck

Thursday, February 3, 7 PM

$6 Members, $12 Nonmembers (includes Museum Admission)

View three short films from local Directors Robert Machoian & Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck, shown for the first time as a series, including the premiere screening of Helen. Each film presents children as protagonists as they explore the realities of their world and the power of their imaginations. It is a fitting complement to the themes presented in the current Crocker Exhibition Gottfried Helnwein: Inferno of the Innocents, which explores the innocence and exploitation of children in contemporary society.

Robert Machoian graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay. He recently received his MFA from University of California Davis, and is currently an adjunct teacher at Sacramento State College. Originally from Davis, Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck is currently enrolled in the MFA program at University of California, Berkeley. The duo have made more than fourteen films together, one of which Ella and the Astronaut went on to play festivals internationally, including the BFI International film festival, Athens Ohio Film and Video festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, and Copenhagen Film Festival. Their second film Charlie and the Rabbit premiered at Sundance 2010, and went on to play festivals internationally.

Ella and the Astronaut and Charlie and the Rabbit will both be screened in addition to the duo's newest film, Helen. Both Directors will be present to introduce and discuss the films.

Purchase tickets online, by calling (916) 808-1182 or at the Admissions Desk.

The New Crocker is now open!  With four times the exhibition space and more than 2,000 new works on view, there's a lot more to love at the Crocker.  Because we know you can't see it all in one day, we now have extended hours.  In addition to being open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm, the Crocker is now open from 10 am until 7 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 10 am until 9 pm on Thursday.
