Tis the season...to give the gifts of reading and writing!

Hello Friends,

Happy, happy holidays to you. The SPC fundraiser last week was a lovely and successful evening. Kudos to all who came out for it. Below, I have some more ways you can get your read and write on while supporting local writing orgs.

TONIGHT:
The lovely and intelligent new mag California Northern celebrates its second issue with a Release Party at Avid Reader in Sacramento, 1600 Broadway at 7:00 pm.

What is this magazine, you ask? Says the website: "California Northern Magazine is a biannual publication exploring the region's cultures, environments, histories, and identities. It provides a rare California-based forum for exceptional essays, long-form journalism, literature, and photography, and distinguishes itself from traditional regional media by balancing its local emphasis with a level of sophistication and depth typically found in larger national publications."

Rae Gouirand at One by One Press has a fun event for you on Saturday, 12/11 in Davis:

"The third annual OPEN BOOKS TRUNK SALE will take place at my (Rae Gouirand's) house in Davis (at 2452 Bucklebury Road, Apt. 6) on Saturday, December 11 from 2-6 PM. What's this, you ask? Maybe you didn't know that I'm an artisan bookbinding enthusiast, and that every year I produce a new line of hardback writing journals as a fundraiser for the press - the Open Books project. If you like the sound of browsing the new line (there are only 80 this year, in entirely new designs made from Japanese chiyogami and washi papers and Italian linen), you should come check them out! I'll also have some other surprise items on the table, and my incredibly gifted jewelry designer friend Amy Radbill will be showing her new line of pieces too. I've put photos of the new books and some of the surprises in an album called "Open Books Trunk Sale Preview" on my Facebook page, if you'd like to take a sneak peek. Cash and check only; mulled cider and cookies for all."
